How to change the server egg

An egg is an application or game template that determines the server's startup, variables, and environment. Change the egg when you want to use different server software.

Back up before changing the egg

Reinstalling and deleting old files can cause data loss. Create a backup first and wait for it to finish before changing the egg. You need this backup to restore your files to their state before the change.

Steps

  1. Open the NexusCloud panel and log in.
  2. Click your server.
  3. On mobile, click the menu button (=) to open navigation.
  4. Scroll down and find Egg Changer.
  5. Click Egg Changer, choose the egg you want, then click Select Egg. For example, switch from Java Forge to Java Paper. Use Search Egg to find an egg more easily; if Forge is not visible, type forge. Once you have selected an egg, click Change Egg, then choose Change & Reinstall.
  6. Wait for the reinstall to finish. Your server now uses the selected egg.

Remove old files

After changing the egg, delete all old files from the previous egg through the Files menu. Do not assume old files will work with the new egg, such as Forge mods on Paper.

Do not delete newly installed files

Stop the server before cleaning up files and make sure your backup has finished. Delete only old files from the previous egg, not new files created by the reinstall. If you cannot identify the old files, check the backup contents before deleting anything.

To recover files from before the egg change, follow the restore backup guide. Make sure the active egg matches the restored files.
